Our Situation

What is Sin? 1 John 3:4; James 2.10, 4.17. Sin is the breaking of God's law by: [1] doing that which God has forbidden us to do (Sins of Commission), or [2] not doing what God has commanded us to do (Sins of Omission). Which now originates from the Heart (the heart being the seat of our emotional, rational, volitional & spiritual side all together): James 1.13-15; Jeremiah 17.9-10; Romans 7.7-25.
Sin is moral evil. Sin is absolutely wrong. Sin involves both guilt & pollution. Sin arises from the heart. Sin includes thoughts & motives.
When did sin first enter the world? What sin did Adam & Eve commit (Genesis 3:1-6)? Put this in the context of the abundance that God had given in the garden.
What is the Consequence of Sin?
- Genesis 2.15-17
- Romans 5.12-19 (See the Sin Chart)
- Romans 6.23
- Revelation 20:11-15.
What does GOD think of sin? Proverbs 6:16-19.
Why do you sin? Read Psalm 51:5 & James 1.13-15. We are Born to Sin!' We are all born with a sinful nature (Ephesians 2:1-3)! We sin *because* we are sinners (Romans 5:12).
But What About:
- Ezekiel 18.2-4, 19-20?
- Ezek. 28.11-16
Can you do anything to save yourself? Read Romans 3:9-18.
- Can you deliver yourself, save yourself by being good (3:10 & 12)? Remember, Sin is moral evil, which involves both guilt & pollution. It arises from the heart, & includes thoughts & motives.
- Do you believe that God HAS to save sinners, or does He CHOOSE to save sinners out of His own SOVEREIGN gracious mercy (Romans 9:14-15)? What is the basis of salvation / deliverance from God's justice (Ephesians 2:1-9)?
- Do you think you deserve to be saved (Romans 5:7-8)? Do you think that God should love you (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)?
- What is your only hope for salvation (Luke 18:13; Eph. 1.3-14).

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit,
that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit,
to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit,
that I always may be holy.
Amen.
